Pro-Left teachers’ organisations in the University of Calicut have alleged that 32 people with Sangh Parivar links have been included in the university’s Boards of Studies in various subjects and languages when it was reconstituted recently.
In a release on Saturday (October 17, 2026), Association of Calicut University Teachers secretary C. Shibi, Association of Kerala Government College Teachers regional secretary P.V. Raghudas, and All-Kerala Private College Teachers’ Association regional secretary V.K. Brijesh claimed that the posts of chairpersons of two important boards had been given to such people. Apart from this, three people with extreme right-wing views were nominated as chairpersons of language boards. They pointed out that guest lecturers and people from other universities and self-financing colleges had been accommodated in boards even though there were enough experienced faculty members in affiliated colleges.
They also alleged that the same teacher had been included twice in the same board. The Syndicate, now controlled by the Congress and the Indian Union Muslim League, had ignored the subject expertise of teachers. Representation of districts which fall under the jurisdiction of the university too had not been given due consideration, the teachers’ organisation leaders alleged.
