Officials from the Department of Food Safety and Drug Administration sealed a pickle manufacturing unit in Kamakshipalya, Bengaluru, following an inspection that found alleged violations of food safety and hygiene norms.
The inspection, led by the Food Safety Officer of the Rajajinagar division, was carried out on Tuesday at S.P. Malenadu Enterprises, a pickle manufacturing unit. According to officials, the unit was found operating in unhygienic conditions and not adhering to prescribed food safety norms. Several ingredients used in the preparation of pickles, including carrots, mangoes, lemons and amla, were allegedly found to be rotten.
Officials said the conditions at the premises posed a potential risk to public health. Pickle products prepared at the unit were seized during the inspection.
The department subsequently sealed the manufacturing unit and issued a notice seeking an explanation from the operator. Further legal action is being initiated, officials said.
