The police at Tirurangadi arrested a man for allegedly circulating derogatory posters and morphed images of Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) State president Syed Sadikali Shihab Thangal on social media.
The arrested person was identified as Ponniyath Anvar from Velliyamburam, Nannambra. The case was registered on a complaint by U.A. Razak, Muslim Youth League president of the Tirurangadi constituency.
The complaint alleged that such posts could lead to communal tensions and clashes in the area.
According to the first information report, Anvar was booked for allegedly attempting to incite a riot by circulating defamatory content. An investigation is under way.
