New Delhi, October 7: The President, Mr. Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed, said on his return here to-day from a four-day State visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) that there was plenty of goodwill for the Indian leadership and the people there.
The UAE leaders fully appreciated the achievements in the “internal conditions of our country and the effort we are making to bring about normalisation of relations with our neighbours and for lasting peace”, Mr. Ahmed told newsmen at Delhi airport.
The Vice-President, Mr. B.D. Jatti, the Prime Minister, Mrs. Indira Gandhi, Central Ministers, the Congress President, Mr. D.K. Barooah and MPs were among those present at the airport to receive Mr. Ahmed.
Regarding his talks with the UAE leaders, Mr. Ahmed said he found plenty of similarity in “our approach to international problems.”
He said, “they believe in the policy of non-alignment, peaceful co-existence and feel that it is the only way to bring about a just world.”
Mr. Ahmed told Indian correspondents who accompanied him on his visit to the UAE that in his talks with the UAE leaders he had found a sincere desire on their part to give a new turn to the relationship between India and the UAE in conformity with the requirements of the present technological world.
Both Sheikh Zayed, President of the UAE and Sheikh Rashed, Vice-President, told him that developing countries like India and the UAE, should have closer economic co-operation because “our requirements are similar”.
The UAE leaders were of the view that it would be profitable for the developing countries to promote as much economic cooperation as possible among themselves.
