DHAN Academy organises ‘Heritage 2026’

The DHAN Academy in Madurai organised the 13th edition of HERITAGE 2026, a two-day inter-collegiate programme on August 28 and 29, with the theme “Exploring Traditions – Spreading the fragrance of culture and development among the youth.”

The programme was conducted at The DHAN Academy on the first day and at Thiruvedagam village on the second day.

The event brought together students from nine colleges in the city with 150 participants.

K. Suresh, Senior Scientist & Head, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, during the inaugural address, spoke about the changing senior-junior relationship, particularly the shift from ragging towards healthy relationships, and highlighted the historical significance of agriculture and its connection with Tamil culture.

The second day was held at Thiruvedagam village, beginning with a heritage walk led by the local community, featuring Molapari, Kottu and Silambam.

Village children presented silambam, traditional dance and bharatanatyam, reflecting the continuation of cultural traditions among the younger generation.

A major highlight was the release of the Thiruvedagam Heritage Brochure, documenting the historical facts and archaeological traces of the village identified through the contributions of archaeologist V. Vedachalam, among others.

C. P. Mohankumar, Programme Advisor, DHAN Foundation, addressed the gathering on the origin, heritage and cultural significance of the Vaigai River.

The day also featured the Folk Song and Street Play competitions by college students.
