A hands-on training on ‘Golden Hour’ to save the accident victims was conducted here on Friday as part of the World Trauma Day observed at the Government Hospital.

Experts trained the participants on saving victims of road accident, fire accident, riot and natural disaster victims by rushing them to the nearest hospital in the ambulance after giving them first aid or CPR.

Presiding over the training session, District Collector Ranjeet Singh said the World Trauma Day, which is being observed with the objective of minimising fatal accidents by creating awareness, also imparts training to the volunteers and the public on saving accident victims. Since more than 50 lakh accident victims succumb to their injuries every year across the globe, including 10 lakh in India, the awareness and the ‘Golden Hour’ training will substantially reduce the fatalities.

Over 13 lakh have been killed in road accidents in the past 10 years in India and 50 lakh others were critically injured during this period. Since road accidents are the prime reason for the death of the youth between the age of 15 and 29, the bike riders should always wear helmets while those travelling in the car should fasten the seatbelt. The drivers should have adequate rest and should not be intoxicated while driving the vehicles, the Collector said.

The fire and rescue services personnel organised mock accident rescue operations as part of this event.
