Photo exhibition, colourful celebrations mark ‘Station Mahotsav’ of Tiruchi Junction

Commemorating the rich heritage and long-standing legacy of the Tiruchi Junction, the Tiruchi Railway Division celebrated the ‘Station Mahotsav’ of the historic landmark on Monday.

The Railway Board, New Delhi, had identified 103 heritage stations throughout the country, including Tiruchi Junction, and asked the respective railway zones to hold Station Mahotsav (birthday celebration) at the chosen stations. The Tiruchi Junction traces its inception to August 1862.

The programme commenced with a procession from the Rail Museum to the Tiruchi Junction portico by railway officers, personnel of the Railway Protection Force, Scouts and Guides and railway employees. Upon reaching the station portico, balloons were released marking the commencement of the celebration.

A cake cutting ceremony was then held to commemorate the historic occasion followed by cultural programmes. A photo exhibition and an expo of vintage railway exhibits were organised.

The photo exhibition had rare photographs relating to the Tiruchi Junction and its evolution over the years, historical publications, and other authentic sources providing passengers and visitors an opportunity to look back at the station’s remarkable journey.

A special magazine Virasat Smarika was released by Balak Ram Negi, Divisional Railway Manager, Tiruchi, on the occasion. The magazine features photographs, interesting historical facts, and heritage-related content connected with the station and its enduring legacy.

A short film on the heritage of the station was showcased. A regional food festival provided the visitors an opportunity to savour the culinary heritage. Mr. Negi felicitated the railway employees of various departments and the house keeping staff working at the Tiruchi railway junction.
