Elaborate arrangements are being made as the Dasara celebrations at Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam, Vijayawada Utsav and the National Saras Aajeevika Mela would be organised simultaneously in the city, NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha has said.
The Collector, along with Society For Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP) CEO Vakati Karuna, National Rural Livelihoods Mission(NRLM) Director Molishree and Joint Collector S. Ilakkiya, reviewed the arrangements being made at Punnami Ghat, the veue for the mela, on Thursday, October 8.
Addressing the media later, Mr. Lakshmisha said up to 600 stalls would be set up, showcasing a wide range of handicrafts, handloom products and other articles made by women of self-help groups from across the country during the mela, to be held from October 13 to 31.
He said the mela was being organised by the Union and State governments to provide a platform for women self-help groups and artisans to market their products and promote their livelihoods. The stalls would showcase the culture, traditions, traditional arts and rural lifestyles of different States, he said.
The Collector appealed to people from Vijayawada and NTR district, as well as visitors from other places, to visit the mela and encourage products made by women SHGs from different States.
President Droupadi Murmu and dignitaries from other States are expected to participate in the event.
Local public representatives and officials were working together to ensure the successful conduct of all three events, he added.
