The 15 to 1 longshot Red Bishop, ridden by Neeraj Rawal, sprang a surprise by beating stablemate hot favourite Fynbos at the wire, in the Indian St. Leger (Gr. 1), the stellar attraction of Sunday’s (Sept. 20) races here.

The winner is owned by Mr. K.N. Dhunjibhoy, Mr. Z.K. Dhunjibhoy & Ms. Anosha Meyers rep. Five Stars Shipping Co. Pvt. Ltd., Ms. Anita J. Captain, Mr. & Mrs. D.P. Adenwalla, Mr. A.S. Narielwala, Mr. Vispi R. Patel & Mr. James O’ Donnell & Mr. Abhilash Puljal rep. Kingsmoor World India Pvt. Ltd.

Pesi Shroff trains the winner. Shroff saddled two more winners of the day.

This son of Kingda Ka-Solar Midnight was confidently held at the rear by jockey Neeraj until the 1,000m mark, and gradually improved to fourth place as the field approached the bend.

On entering the home straight, he produced a tremendous burst of speed to overhaul the front-runners and upset his stablemate Fynbos, beating her by half a length.

This victory also marked a significant milestone for Shroff who completed his 100th Classic success as a trainer.
