A minor fire broke out at Cantonment House, the official residence of Leader of Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan, in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday. The fire reportedly broke out in a shed behind the Cantonment House around 10 p.m. Four fire and rescue units from Chenkalchoola and Chacka reached the spot and launched efforts to extinguish the blaze. The fire rescue personnel informed that the fire has been brought under control.
However, the Fire and Rescue units are stationed there for the time being, as the incident occurred in a highly secure zone. According to officials, Mr. Vijayan had not moved into the Cantonment House as maintenance work was under way there. The fire reportedly did not spread to other parts of the premises.
