Cabinet reshuffle, discipline, freedom for Revanth can get Congress a second term: Gutha Sukhender Reddy

Telangana Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy suggested a reshuffle of the State Cabinet to bring in newness, and urged the party leaders not to create obstacles for Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, and he should be allowed to function freely.

In an informal interaction in the Legislative Council, Mr. Reddy felt a Cabinet reshuffle will bring newness. “The Chief Minister is young and dynamic and the party leaders should sail with him without creating unnecessary obstacles,” he said.

Mr. Reddy also made a strong pitch for greater discipline within the ruling Congress. He cautioned that failure to act against leaders who cross the party line could prove detrimental to the Congress. “If these issues were addressed, the Congress government could return to power.”

On land-related issues, the Council Chairman said the government should abolish Section 22-A restrictions and solve the controversies arising out of it. He reminded that the 22-A section existed during the previous BRS regime too, but it should be scrapped now.

The Council Chairman also made several suggestions on government welfare programmes. He said existing pensions of ₹2,000 should be enhanced and Rythu Bharosa should be continued, but benefits should be restricted to eligible farmers.

He said the Congress government was continuing some of the BRS schemes while introducing new ones. “There was no widespread dissatisfaction among ordinary people over the welfare schemes,” he claimed. He, however, stressed on the need for better publicity about the schemes being implemented by the government so that people were aware of their benefits.
