South Western Railway, Mysuru division on Thursday launched the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS)-2026 Campaign on Thursday. The campaign will continue up to October 2, with a focus on cleanliness, public participation and awareness on responsible waste management.

The campaign commenced at the open-air auditorium of division office with the Swachhata Pledge administered by Mudit Mittal, Divisional Railway Manager, Mysuru. Shammas Hameed, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, senior divisional officers, railway staff and contract staff participated in the launch activities. Shramdaan (voluntary cleanliness activities) was also undertaken at various locations.

As part of the campaign, Swachhata Pledges, cleanliness drives, awareness programmes, educational visits and rallies were organised across the division in Mysuru, Ashokapuram, Sakleshpur, Davangere, Shivamogga, Harihar and Arsikere.

In Mysuru, students of Lalitha School participated in awareness programmes on the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026. Around 50 students visited the Solid Waste Management Facility at Mysuru New Goods Terminal Yard and were briefed about various waste-management processes. The students also visited the Linen Care Centre, where they were informed about linen-care processes and the functioning of the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP). Transportation assistance was provided by RPF Mysuru.

At Government High School, Ashokapuram, awareness sessions were conducted for schoolchildren on four-way source segregation, along with a Swachhata Pledge. A Swachhata awareness rally was also conducted through the CWS/Mysuru Main Gate and Ashokapuram Railway Colony.

At Davangere Railway Station, awareness and demonstration sessions were conducted for school children on solid waste management, covering four-way source segregation, avoidance of single-use plastics and the use of reusable water bottles during travel. A passenger awareness rally was also organised, sensitising passengers about segregation of wet, dry, sanitary and special-care waste. The Swachhata Pledge was administered to railway staff.

“The campaign aims to encourage railway employees, contract staff, students, passengers and the public to actively participate in cleanliness initiatives and adopt responsible waste-management practices,” a press release said.

Mysuru division has appealed to passengers and the public to actively participate in Swachhata Hi Seva-2026 and contribute towards keeping railway stations, trains and railway premises clean and environmentally friendly.
