Three persons were arrested by Arakkonam town police for possession of 600 narcotic tablets (Tapentadol) near a railway station in Arakkonam on Saturday.

The arrested persons were identified as K. Subash, 22, V. Elango, 26, and B. Saravanan, 22. They were residents of Chennai.

Initial inquiry revealed that based on a tip-off to Ranipet SP P. Sibin, special teams were formed to conduct surprise checks in public places such as bus termii, railway stations and isolated buildings in the district.

Accordingly, a special police team was conducting a routine check near Arakkonam railway station when the team intercepted the suspects.

The team checked the trio and their bags and found narcotic tablets in these. Investigation found that the gang placed an order for tablets with pharmacies in Mumbai. The tablets were sent by couriers to them.

The police said the gang was on their way to the railway station to go to Chennai, where they planned to sell in retail. A case was registered. Arrested persons were lodged at Central Prison in Vellore and a probe is under way.
