‘One Piece’ announces two new movies: ‘God Valley’ set for 2027, ‘Baad’ for 2029

The One Piece franchise is returning to cinemas with two new animated features. The films were announced on August 23 at One Piece Day ’26 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan, with a short teaser revealing their titles and release windows. God Valley will arrive in Japanese theatres in summer 2027, while Baad is slated for 2029.

One Piece Film: God Valley will arrive during the 30th anniversary year of Eiichiro Oda’s manga, which began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump on July 22, 1997. The teaser provides the first major clue about the film’s story, featuring Gol D. Roger, Monkey D. Garp and Rocks D. Xebec, the three figures at the centre of the legendary God Valley Incident.

The God Valley Incident took place 38 years before the events of the main story and involved a confrontation between Rocks D. Xebec and his crew and an unlikely alliance between future Pirate King Gol D. Roger and Marine hero Monkey D. Garp. The mysterious island of God Valley subsequently disappeared from the maps, leaving the incident largely buried within the history of the world.

The announcement is particularly significant because the God Valley storyline has become one of the manga’s major unresolved historical threads. The teaser released alongside the announcement features Roger, Garp and Rocks, confirming that the film will draw directly from this period of the franchise’s history.

The second project, One Piece Film: Baad , is scheduled for 2029, which will coincide with the 30th anniversary of the One Piece television anime. The anime first premiered in Japan on October 20, 1999. Unlike God Valley , the story and characters that will feature in Baad remain under wraps.

The two films follow One Piece Film: Red , which opened in Japan in August 2022 and became a major theatrical success for the franchise, earning more than ¥20.34 billion at the Japanese box office. It remains the most recent One Piece theatrical feature.

The announcements also arrive as One Piece approaches its 30th anniversary and enters another major period of expansion. Oda’s manga has surpassed 600 million copies in circulation worldwide, while the franchise now spans the long-running anime, films, video games and Netflix’s live-action adaptation .

For now, God Valley has the clearer identity of the two projects, with its historical setting and central conflict already established through the manga. Baad remains a mystery, with its 2029 date positioning it as part of the anime’s 30th-anniversary celebrations.
