Industries Minister P.K. Kunhalikutty on Monday (August 24) declared the upgrading of Keltron’s lighting division at Nandi Bazar near Moodadi in Koyilandy as an ‘Electronics Village’.

Mr. Kunhalikutty said that Keltron was bringing about changes in the production of medical assistive devices in line with the changing times. Many devices helpful for the differently-abled, senior citizens, and children can be produced at the unit. The Minister said that more funds would be allocated for its expansion. Shafi Parambil, MP, and K. Praveenkumar, Koyilandy MLA, were present at the event.

Official sources said that the unit, under the Kerala State Electronics Development Corporation or Keltron, had been producing medical assistive devices, including hearing aid models such as ‘Shravan Neo’ and ‘Shravan Mini’. Efforts would be made to manufacture more devices there using the latest technology. The officials said that the aim was to make the largest industrial cluster in assistive technology production here. A sum of ₹5 crore had been allocated in the State Budget for the first phase of development works.

The unit would focus on medical electronics, health technology, and assistive mobility sectors. Special electric three-wheelers for senior citizens and differently-abled people, and new models of ‘Shravan Neo’ and ‘Shravan Mini’ were in the pipeline. Apart from them, radiant warmers and baby warming wraps for infants, and oxygen concentrators, nebulisers, digital pH meters, and clinical thermometers too would be manufactured.
