A 45-year-old man who set his wife on fire due to a family dispute was arrested in Salem on Tuesday (October 6, 2026).

The arrested was identified as Ibrahim, a resident of Mettu Mariamman Temple Street, who is a silver anklet worker. He was married to Parjhana (35), and the couple have three children. According to the police, Ibrahim used to consume liquor regularly, which created quarrels between the couple. On Monday night (October 5, 2026), the children went to their grandmother’s house in the locality.

When Parjhana was alone in the house, Ibrahim returned back in an inebriated state and quarrelled with her. At that time, he doused her with petrol and set her on fire. Hearing her cry for help, nearby residents came to the house, extinguished the fire and admitted her to Salem Government Hospital. In the incident, she sustained 50% burn injuries. The Salem Town police registered a case and, on Tuesday, arrested Ibrahim.
