One student from Andhra Pradesh was injured in a clash that erupted between students from the State and the North Eastern region in S.K. College of Nursing in Kakinada city on Saturday (August 22, 2026).

Tension prevailed in the nursing college hostel after the students from the North East region lodged a complaint with Sarpavaram police stating that one of the students’ cell phone was stolen by some one.

The two groups clashed after the Andhra Pradesh students learnt about the police complaint. One girl, who received injuries on her head in the clash, was treated in Government General Hospital in Kakinada.

The Manipur students have reportedly shared the prevailing environment on the college campus with their Chief Minister, Yumnam Khemchand, raising alarm on their safety on the college campus. On being alerted by the Manipur government and higher authorities of Andhra Pradesh, Kakinada District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad and SP G. Bindu Madhav deployed a team of officials to maintain peace on the campus on Saturday.

In a joint statement, Mr. Harendhira Prasad has stated; “The clash erupted between the groups of Telugu students and those from Manipur and Nagaland over theft of a phone of a Manipur student. The campus returned to normalcy after talks with the two groups”.

Mr. Harendhira Prasad has added that as many as 31 students of Manipur and Nagaland have been provided accommodation separately on Saturday night itself to guarantee them safety on the campus.

Mr. Bindu Madhav has stated that talks would be held on Sunday (August 23) with the students on the college campus to maintain peace and harmony.

Later, in an audio statement, the North Eastern region students thanked the officials concerned for their intervention and addressing their concerns on Saturday. Mr. Harendhira Prasad has said that the college management has been directed to provide separate accommodation for the North East region students on campus.
