Youth arrested for cheating delivery executive of ₹4,000

The Adambakkam police have arrested a youth for allegedly cheating a delivery executive of ₹4,000 by falsely claiming that he would transfer the money through Google Pay at an ATM kiosk.

The accused was identified as Purushothaman, 21, of Thazhambur, Chengalpattu district. The police said Ranjith Kumar, 21, had gone to an Indian Bank ATM in Shastri Nagar to deposit ₹4,000.

While he was at the ATM kiosk, an unidentified man approached him and offered to transfer the money to his bank account through Google Pay if Ranjith Kumar handed over the cash to him. Believing him, Ranjith Kumar gave the man ₹4,000. The suspect allegedly showed a transaction screen on his mobile phone and claimed that the money had been transferred and left the spot. When Ranjith Kumar checked his bank account, he found that the amount had not been credited.

Based on his complaint, Adambakkam police examined CCTV camera footage from the area and conducted inquiries. Later, they identified and arrested Purushothaman.
