Automated fitness testing of vehicles is a step closer to reality, with the Telangana government approving the formation of a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to set up 37 automated testing stations.

According to a government order, the first phase will see 15 stations being established, one at each composite district headquarters, and four more within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority jurisdictions. At ₹11.50 crore per station, the first phase will cost ₹172.5 crore. The remaining 22 stations will be set up in the second phase at an estimated cost of ₹252 crore.

The SPV will adopt a self-financing model to raise funds for the establishment and maintenance of the 37 automated testing stations through loans from banks and financial institutions such as HUDCO.
