The 106 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) PARA, popularly known as the ‘Bangalore Terriers’, has returned to its permanent location at Bengaluru, after a field tenure in Jammu & Kashmir from June 2023 to September 2026.

The battalion was deployed in an intense counter-terrorist operational environment in Jammu & Kashmir. The battalion is presently commanded by Colonel Tejas B. Candade, from 2 PARA (Special Forces).

The battalion also excelled in various competitions, emerging as the winner of the Inter-Battalion Platoon Competition, conducted under the aegis of the Formation Headquarters.

The Ministry of Defence said that the high training standards of the battalion were appreciated by various Formation Commanders in the chain of command.

The Ministry added that the Bangalore Terriers has returned home with valuable operational experience, enhanced training standards and renewed confidence, proud of their legacy, enriched by their field experience and ready to take on the challenges ahead.

Raised on October 1, 1960, at Jalandhar Cantt., the battalion was initially affiliated to The Punjab Regiment.

It shifted its permanent location to Bengaluru in 1966 and was then affiliated to The Parachute Regiment in 1979.

The battalion’s operational legacy includes participation in the 1965 Indo-Pak War, where its troops captured 36 Pakistani SSG Commandos near Adampur, Punjab, and rendering humanitarian assistance during the 1999 Odisha Super Cyclone under Op Sahayta.

N.A. Haris, chairman, Bengaluru Development Authority, welcomed the battalion on behalf of the Karnataka government and people of Bengaluru.
