Kerala Women’s Commission (KWC) chairperson P. Sathidevi has called for strengthening internal committees in workplaces to prevent atrocities against women.
Speaking after a sitting of the KWC at the Kozhikode Collectorate conference hall on Monday (August 17), Ms. Sathidevi said all government offices and private institutions should have functional internal committees and details of the committees should be prominently displayed.
Employees should be sensitised about the functioning of the committees and an effective monitoring mechanism should also be put in place, she said.
Ms. Sathidevi also urged the public to make maximum use of the free counselling services launched at the KWC’s regional centres. Counselling is available at the Kozhikode regional centre on every Monday and Wednesday, and several complaints are being resolved through the facility, she said.
The complaints received at the sitting included domestic violence, breakdown of family relationships, workplace harassment, alleged grabbing of a differently abled woman’s property using forged documents, failure to care for an elderly mother and cheating in financial transactions.
Of the 41 complaints received at the sitting, one was resolved, while police reports were sought in nine cases and one was referred for counselling.
