Nvidia in $6 billion deal to create competitor to Chinese AI models — WSJ
NEW YORK, August 23. /TASS/. Nvidia has clinched a $6 billion deal with AI startup Poolside to create an artificial intelligence model that could compete with Chinese heavyweights DeepSeek and Kimi K3, The Wall Street Journal quoted sources as saying.
According to it, Nvidia will gain the right to use Poolside’s technologies and hire most of its engineers.
The founders of the startup have already notified the shareholders about a significant reorganization of the company, noting that the deal is intended to prevent artificial intelligence from becoming a closed technology controlled by a small number of people.
Earlier, Bloomberg reported that China is rapidly closing the AI gap with the United States. It said that despite the US restrictions on the supply of advanced AI chips to China, Chinese models are already becoming comparable in capabilities to the US ones, with much lower development costs. As an example, the agency cited the Kimi K3 model, which came very close by performance indicators to the flagship Anthropic model, while its developer Moonshot spent significantly less money on its creation.
