Trump says he would be happy if allowed to run for third presidential term

WASHINGTON, August 22. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump said he would be happy if the country's laws were changed to allow him to run for a third term as head of state.

"We have rules and regulation that says you're not allowed to run. If they'd like to change that, be very happy," Trump told supporters in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

By law, Trump's second term as president is scheduled to end in January 2029. The 22nd Amendment to the US Constitution, adopted in 1951, limits a president to two terms in office. However, the current American leader has repeatedly raised the possibility of seeking reelection to a third term.

Trump won the presidency for a second time in November 2024, defeating Democratic candidate Kamala Harris. He previously served his first term from 2017 to 2021.
