Russia's media watchdog urges news outlets to verify reports from Irkutsk Region

MOSCOW, October 8. /TASS/. Russia's media watchdog Roskomnadzor has urged news outlets to use information only from official sources amid the situation in Russia's Irkutsk Region, the agency's press office said.

The media watchdog highlighted that false information about the sanitary and epidemiological situation in Irkutsk Region, in southeastern Russia, had been circulating in recent days.

"Roskomnadzor reminds media owners, website operators and social media account owners that they may be held liable for spreading fake news. The agency urges media outlets to disseminate information obtained only from official sources and to contact Rospotrebnadzor (Russia's consumer protection and public health watchdog - TASS) with any questions concerning the sanitary situation," Roskomnadzor said on Max messenger.
