Nearly 130,000 displaced in Yemen amid escalating conflict, IOM says

GENEVA, September 22. /TASS/. Nearly 130,000 people have been displaced across Yemen amid escalating conflict, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said

"The latest data from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) show that 129,438 people, or 21,573 households, have been displaced across seven governorates in Yemen as families flee escalating insecurity," the statement on the IOM website reads.

The organization said the number of displaced people continues to grow. Upon reaching safer areas, Yemenis face difficulties due to a lack of support. The IOM also noted that around 3,100 Yemenis had left the country across the Red Sea and arrived in Djibouti.

The situation in Yemen sharply escalated in early September, when the rebel movement launched an offensive in the southwestern part of the country. Alongside their ground advance, the Houthis began launching missile and drone strikes on coastal areas of the Red Sea and the vicinity of Taiz, seeking to cut off routes to Mocha and advance toward areas near the strategically important Bab el-Mandeb Strait. On September 12, an Ansar Allah politburo member confirmed to TASS that the Houthis had completed an operation to establish control over areas in western Yemen with access to the strait.
