Over 1,400 militants surrender in Central African Republic over past year
MOSCOW, August 24. /TASS/. More than 1,400 militants laid down their arms over the past year through the mediation of Russian military specialists in the Central African Republic, the Commonwealth of Officers for International Security (COIS) reported.
"In total, more than 1,400 militants have been disarmed since August 2025. Of these, 932 have completed the reintegration program," the report said.
Russian specialists have joined efforts to disarm and reintegrate militants from the 3R and UPC groups, the last remaining factions that are still active and have retained their command structures, at the request of President of the Central African Republic Faustin-Archange Touadera, according to the report.
"That said, the team of instructors undertook this task with the negative experience of the 2019 disarmament in mind, when the process stalled following the signing of the Khartoum agreements due to bureaucratic delays on the part of the UN mission and Western non-profit organizations. Responsibility for implementation at that time had rested solely with the UN mission MINUSCA and Western non-profit organizations," the COIS noted.
