There was double success for Britain at the US Open on Saturday with Alfie Hewett regaining his wheelchair singles title and Neal Skupski finally winning the men's doubles.

Emotional Hewett burst into tears after beating Tokito Oda 6-0 7-6 (7-5) to deny the 20-year-old Japanese star a calendar Grand Slam.

The 28-year-old, who was beaten by Oda in the finals of the French Open and Wimbledon this year, said: "It's taken lot of hard work, a lot of soul-searching at times, a lot of reflecting.

"The Wimbledon pumping was a tough one to swallow. I definitely came away from that one with a lot of regret, took some time off and had a hard, long look in the mirror about who I wanted to be on the tennis court and how I wanted to show up.

"Today I didn't care about the outcome. It was about being a little bit more like 'Alfie' and showing the fight and showing the grit and the desire to go out and play a bit more fearless. I think the performance showed that."

It was Hewett's fifth US Open title but his first since 2023, and will sit nicely with the doubles trophy he won with Gordon Reid on Friday.
