Toby Carvery chaos as 'man tasered' and pair arrested over child neglect

Police deployed tasers before two people were arrested in an incident outside of a Toby Carvery restaurant in Chadderton on Friday evening.

Emergency services swarmed the popular restaurant last night (Friday, August 28). It has been reported that a man appeared to have been running from police officers before he was tasered in the car park.

The restaurant, located on Chadderton Park, Oldham, was closed for a short period of time after a number of police cars and an ambulance were spotted outside, witnesses said, Manchester Evening News reports.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has today confirmed that a man and a woman have been arrested and remain in custody. Police say that officers noticed a vehicle driving erratically and conducted a vehicle stop at 7.45pm on Friday evening.

After approaching and speaking to the driver, Police say that he became "aggressive", which led the officers to deploy their taser.

Officers searched the vehicle before the man who was driving was arrested on suspicion of assaulting two officers, possession with intent to supply class B, and child neglect. A passenger, a woman, was also arrested on suspicion of child neglect and the pair remain in police custody for questioning.

Greater Manchester Police said in a statement: "At 7.45pm on Friday 28 August, officers conducted a vehicle stop after observing vehicle driving in an erratic manner," a GMP statement reads.

It continues: "Officers spoke to the driver, who then became aggressive and a taser was deployed.

"Following a search of the vehicle, a man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of assaulting two officers, possession with intent to supply class B, and child neglect.

"A woman, a passenger, was also arrested on suspicion of child neglect. They remain in custody for questioning."
