Somerset ramped up the pressure on County Championship Division One leaders Nottinghamshire with an eight-wicket victory at home against Essex.

The home side required only 19.2 overs on day four to reach their target of 102, with Tom Lammonby finishing 39 not out, as they moved to within two points of the top of the table.

Essex put up resistance in their second innings but Jack Leach took 5-81 to finish with nine wickets in the game.

Lammonby and Josh Thomas, who got 31, made a stand of 59, but two wickets for Harmer were merely a consolation for Essex.

Struggling Leicestershire won for only the second time this season as they beat Glamorgan by 42 runs.

Kiran Carlson looked as though he might haul Glamorgan to victory with a promising 99 but after he fell to Ajaz Patel the visiting team's challenge faded.

For Leicestershire, Ian Holland took three wickets on day four, taking him to nine for the match, clinching things when last man Raymond Toole's wicket fell.

Hampshire remained bottom of the table after losing by 39 runs to Yorkshire .

In Division Two, Northamptonshire beat Lancashire by 316 runs at Old Trafford, with South African Ricardo Vasconcelos scoring a second-innings century before the hosts were skittled for 129 in 52.2 overs.

Kent kept up the pressure on leaders Durham as they won by 46 runs against Middlesex to move into second place.

A fine 144 by Dan Lategan helped Worcestershire to a comfortable eight-wicket over bottom side Gloucestershire , assisted by 107 not out from Jake Libby.
