Man Utd news LIVE: JJ Gabriel latest as new deadline set after 'agreement reached'

Hello and welcome to Mirror Football 's Manchester United news live blog for Thursday, September 24.

JJ Gabriel is the main topic of conversation at Old Trafford after the teenage sensation expressed his desire to cancel his registration and leave United with immediate effect. United have been left stunned by Gabriel's decision but are still hoping to convince him to remain at the Reds, despite significant interest from elsewhere.

Barcelona and Real Madrid are thought to be leading the race for Gabriel's signature, with his representatives making it clear a move to Spain is his preference. However, if he was to stick in England, Chelsea is his top option.

Although he is desperate to leave, Gabriel is unable to quit United until the end of the season and cannot be deregistered. He is 16 next month, so can then become eligible to sign a scholarship agreement with United.

Elsewhere, United recorded record revenues in their latest financial results . United say that the club continue to benefit from Sir Jim Ratcliffe's operating cost and headcount reductions , alongside the improved third-place Premier League finish during the 2025/26 season.

According to Calciomercato , Antonio Conte is in pole position to become Manchester United's next manager, should the club decide to sack Michael Carrick after a disappointing start to the season.

Conte has been without a club since leaving Napoli back in June and now he is believed to be at the top of United's shortlist with the Reds making 'initial contact' to see if he is available.

It had been reported across the summer that Conte is waiting for offers and would consider United, more than eight years since he managed in England at Chelsea.
