Manchester Airport live: Widespread delays to flights after 'hole in runway'

Manchester Airport is experiencing widespread flight disruptions tonight following reports of a damaged runway.

An airport spokesperson confirmed to the Manchester Evening News that runway one was temporarily closed earlier for "routine maintenance" before being reopened, although separate reports suggest operations were running at reduced capacity.

According to the airport's website, both departures and arrivals faced major delays, with several outbound flights held up by more than an hour.

Flight information boards show that a number of flights due to land at Manchester Airport tonight are delayed.

Departure boards, however, show that so far only the 9.55pm Egyptair flight to Cairo is delayed by an hour.
