David Miliband has added his voice to the growing clamour to reverse Brexit , saying that the decision to leave the European Union has proved to be “exactly the daily anguish” for Britain that he and many others had forecast.

In a wide-ranging interview with The Independent 's Editor-in-Chief Geordie Greig , the former Labour Foreign Secretary called for a new “institutionalised” relationship with the EU, something he was confident Andy Burnham would establish.

His comments came as the prime minister refused to rule out a pledge to reverse Brexit in Labour’s next election manifesto, telling The Independent it was a question "for another day."
