Royal Family live: Earl Spencer in war of words with King Charles

The Prince and Princess of Wales have arrived on the Isle of Bute for a day of engagements, just hours after King Charles was forced to defend himself against statements made by Earl Spencer.

The Duke and Duchess of Rothesay - as William and Kate are known while in Scotland - were all smiles and appeared unbothered by the drama surrounding the Royal Family when they arrived at the Bute Shinty Club.

Charles also stepped out for an engagement today at Dumfries House in Scotland.

In an excerpt of Earl Spencer’s book , a memoir about his late sister Princess Diana, it was claimed that Charles - when he was Prince of Wales - said the royal family would "forget her soon enough" following her tragic death in 1997.

A spokesman for the King said: "While we do not comment on books as a matter of principle, His Majesty is mindful that the pain of fraternal grief can cloud reason, affect judgment and colour memory in ways others do not recognise, even many years after such a loss."

The Duke of Sussex renewed his commitment to supporting children injured in conflict today at a special event with long-standing partners Save the Children and Imperial College London.

Hosted at Imperial College London’s I-HUB innovation centre in West London, the initiative welcomed humanitarians, innovators and philanthropists around a shared mission to improve the care of children with amputation injuries.

The partnership aims to provide children with a holistic package of support – from the latest prosthetic technology to physical rehabilitation and long-term mental health provision.

Speaking at the event, Prince Harry said: “Children should not be exposed to conflict. They should not be losing limbs to blast. But whilst children continue to suffer, I will keep working to ensure they can live life to the full. That’s what this enduring partnership between Archewell Philanthropies, Save the Children and Imperial College London is all about.”

After a panel discussion, the Duke participated in technology demonstrations with companies at the forefront of developing prosthetic solutions designed specifically for children – including a specialised knee joint that can grow with the child, developed at Imperial with funding from Save the Children.
