Man Utd news: Alex Scott transfer stance emerges as plan for star prospect made clear

Manchester United are currently focused on the season but have scope to improve their squad in the future. Manager Michael Carrick is working towards his side achieving immediate success, though he will also have one eye on the club’s long-term future.

The club rebuilt their midfield through a trio of new signings as Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Carlos Baleba sealed moves to the club. Bournemouth star Alex Scott was among the many players to be linked with a switch to Old Trafford as they decided which midfielders to target.

The 23-year-old has become a star player for the Cherries, helping to lead the side to the European places last term. Despite Bournemouth’s determination to keep Scott, his future will remain uncertain in upcoming transfer windows.

Meanwhile, a United star has predicted that Leny Yoro will become an integral part of the team’s backline. Here, Mirror Football looks at some of the biggest stories surrounding the club.

Bournemouth will reportedly expect a minimum of £100million to consider selling Scott in future transfer windows. United were one of several clubs to show interest in the midfielder during the summer.

The 23-year-old turned down the offer of a new contract, increasing speculation that he could leave Bournemouth. However, the Cherries were unwilling to entertain offers and an update on the club’s stance has emerged.

The Athletic reports that Scott is expected to command a minimum of £100m, if he were to leave the side next summer. It is claimed that Bournemouth believe Scott will fetch a larger fee, even with one less year on his contract.

While United ultimately focused on other targets, Chelsea submitted a £64m bid for Scott , which was rejected. He is currently under contract until 2028 and will enter the last year of his deal next summer.

United defender Lisandro Martinez has backed Leny Yoro to be the future of the club’s backline after recently impressing in the Champions League . The 20-year-old arrived from Lille in 2024 and has faced competition for a regular starting spot but Martinez has instructed the club to eventually build their defence around Yoro.

“Amazing performance from Leny Yoro,” Martinez said after the win over Sabah in midweek. “He played so well defensively, with the ball, being calm, being composed in every situation, one-vs-one.

“He's the future of this club, honestly. And we have to help him, you know."
