Raheem Sterling charged with dangerous driving and laughing gas possession after motorway crash

Former England star Raheem Sterling has been charged following a crash on the motorway in May.

The 31-year-old, who is currently without a club, was arrested on May 28 following a collision on the M3 involving his black 4x4 Lamborghini. He is now due at Basingstoke magistrates court on September 15 to face three charges.

A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesman said: “A driver will appear in court next month to face charges following a collision on the M3.

“Raheem Sterling, 31, from Berkshire, has been charged for the following offences: dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation, failing to provide a specimen.

“The charges come following a single vehicle collision, involving a Lamborghini, on the M3 southbound, close to the Minley Interchange, on 28 May, 2026.

“No other vehicles were involved and no injuries were reported. Mr Sterling is due to appear at Basingstoke magistrates court on 15 September.”

The ex- Liverpool , Manchester City , Arsenal and Chelsea forward had just finished his stint playing for Feyenoord at the time of the crash. After being frozen out of the first-team set-up, he terminated his contract with Chelsea in January in order to join the Dutch club.

He played under former Premier League striker Robin van Persie, but the short-term move didn't go to plan, with no goals or assists coming in his eight appearances for Feyenoord.

The four-time Premier League winner has spent the summer looking for a new club - a search which has so far proven unsuccessful. He has been keeping busy in the off-season by coaching at his own RS7 Academy.
