Arsenal news: Bruno Guimaraes doubt raised as Gunners star opens up on 'tough moments'

Bruno Guimaraes was Arsenal 's biggest signing this summer, but has yet to hit the ground running at the Emirates Stadium. The 28-year-old was brought to the club from Newcastle in a £75million deal to add important depth to Mikel Arteta 's midfield.

The energetic star has considerable competition for action, with Declan Rice , Martin Zubimendi, Mikel Merino and Myles Lewis-Skelly rounding out a formidable engine room for the Gunners boss.

However, questions over his influence in north London have emerged, while an Arsenal star has spoken out on issues that hampered his impact last season. Mirror Football takes a look at the latest stories coming out of the Premier League champions.

The former Newcastle captain hasn't had a straightforward start to life at Arsenal since his £75m arrival last month. Guimaraes, 28, has been struck with a hamstring injury in the opening weeks of the season, which has hampered his playing time.

The Brazil international was a key figure in the Magpies' transformation under Eddie Howe, as they became trophy winners and qualified for the Champions League multiple times. However, former Manchester United and Newcastle midfielder Nicky Butt has doubted whether Guimaraes will have a similar impact in north London.

Speaking on The Good, The Bad and The Football podcast , the 51-year-old said: "I think he’s (Guimaraes) a very, very good player, so I would say hit – but the reason why I’m not is because I think the team’s focal points have to be around him. I don’t think Arsenal will do that.

"I think there’s other players in that team to do that. He’ll be a miss."

Martin Odegaard has enjoyed a storming start to the 26/27 campaign after several injuries plagued his availability and form in Arsenal's Premier League title win last season. He has already doubled his goal-scoring tally from last season with his winning goal against Chelsea and has opened up about the difficulties he faced.

The Gunners captain said to VG : "Last season, I had many tough moments with injuries. It was tough for me. I’m so happy to be on the pitch and to feel good and fit. There were several setbacks, and I played without feeling one hundred percent, but now I feel really good.

"I went into the World Cup feeling good, had a really good tournament , and carried that momentum into this season." Discussing his side's mentality after becoming champions, Odegaard added: "We feel different, and we feel stronger. You have to learn from what you experience. Winning the Premier League gives you a different kind of confidence."
