M&S and Tesco shoppers told to isolate for two days in salmonella alert
The Food Standards Agency has issued a recall for a number of foods sold at M&S and Tesco amid fears they could be contaminated with Salmonella food poisoning bacteria. Symptoms caused by Salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.
If you are experiencing the symptoms, you should stay away from work, school or nursery until you have stopped having symptoms for at least 48 hours to avoid passing it on to others.
Greencore is recalling five products. Point of sale notices will be displayed explaining to customers why the products are being recalled and telling them what to do if they have bought them.
The M&S notices read: "In the abundance of caution, Greencore is recalling some pistachio products due to the possible presence of Salmonella. Customer safety is of paramount importance to Marks & Spencer and we take food safety extremely seriously
"Please do not consume this product. Any customers in possession of these products can return it to their nearest store where a full refund will be given. Only the displayed date codes are impacted. No other M&S products are affected.
"We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused. For more information contact us on 03330148555."
The Food Standards Agency said: "If you have bought the above product, do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store where you purchased it where you will be given a full refund. You do not need your receipt. Pinch products are sold exclusively through Tesco.
"If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be 'withdrawn' (taken off the shelves) or 'recalled' (when customers are asked to return the product). The FSA issues Product Recall Information Notices to let consumers and local authorities know about problems associated with food. In some cases, a 'Food Alert for Action' is issued. This provides local authorities with details of specific action to be taken on behalf of consumers."
In August, pasta salads sold at Asda and Morrisons were recalled by Greencore because of the potential presence of a food poisoning bug linked to meningitis. Greencore recalled three pasta products because of possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.
They were Asda Cheese & Tomato Pasta Salad; Asda Nacho Cheese Pasta Salad; and Morrisons Chicken and Bacon Pasta.
