Popular Bluetooth speakers urgently recalled over 'serious risk' — 'stop using'

A range of Bluetooth speakers has been urgently recalled from customers after a "serious" fire risk was discovered. The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has issued a recall notice for the product.

The Cambridge Audio Yoyo (M) Portable Bluetooth Speaker presents a serious risk of fire as the battery may overheat during use. As a result, the speakers have been pulled from sale and recalled by customers.

The OPSS said: "The product presents a serious risk of fire as the lithium-ion battery may overheat during use and enter thermal runaway. This may result in smoke, fire and ejection of battery material.

"The product does not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005."

It added: "The product has been recalled from end users by Cambridge Audio. Affected consumers will be contacted directly with instructions.

"We recommend that owners of affected products stop using them immediately. For further information, access the Cambridge Audio webpage."

All YOYO (M) units are affected by the recall, regardless of when they were bought or their serial numbers. The recall covers all three colourways.

The items are described as portable, rechargeable Bluetooth loudspeakers powered by an internal lithium-ion battery pack, available in dark grey, light grey, and blue colours.

Cambridge Audio has also issued a recall notice for the speakers. It said: "Cambridge Audio has identified a battery safety issue affecting the YOYO (M) portable Bluetooth speaker. We are asking all owners to stop using the product immediately.

"This is a voluntary product safety recall. We identified an issue with the product and have taken proactive action to recall it."

Cambridge Audio have urged customers to stop using the product "immediately" and to disconnect it from the power supply. Don't charge the speaker and store it away from combustible materials.

Don't try to repair the product, open it or remove the battery and don't put it in your household waste or recycling bin. Instead, fill out a form on the Cambridge Audio website.

The next steps you need to take will depend on where you live. For those in the UK, fill out the assessment form and once registered, Cambridge Audio will confirm the next steps.

It added: "Please don't send it by ordinary post or courier, and please don't attempt to open it or remove the battery yourself. Lithium-ion batteries need specialist handling, transport and disposal. We'll advise on next steps once you've registered."
