‘I’m a little sad over my KFC’: Bear bursts into Kentucky woman’s home and steals her dinner

A Kentucky woman woke up to a broken table and a missing dinner early Thursday morning after a bear broke into her home , likely lured by her leftover fast food .

Kendra North was asleep when the animal entered her house, but her sister, who lives next door, witnessed the bear leaving the premises around 5 a.m., as reported by FOX 56 News .

“My sister started calling me, like, five in the morning, and I declined her at least twice, and she just kept calling,” North told the local news station.

“I answered the call, and she was like, ‘Bro, there’s a bear, and it just walked out of your house, and it came down your steps,” North said. “It came and looked at me, dead in the eyes, on my side of the yard.’”

The force of the bear's entry broke a heavy piece of furniture inside the home.

“My table is really thick glass, and it completely shattered it. She said she actually heard the table shatter from inside her house, and she thought that it was a car wreck outside,” North said, adding that she believed the animal was large.

North said she suspected the bear was drawn inside by food left out in the open.

Wildlife officials advise residents to take precautions to prevent wild animals from approaching homes in search of food. John Hast, Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Bear Program Coordinator, noted that outdoor food sources are a primary driver of these interactions.

“If you store pet food or if you feed your dogs outside, just think about that,” Hast told FOX 56 . “Make sure you’re not leaving any out on the porch, and that’ll keep the bear from just coming right in and getting an easy meal.”

Hast added that residents should evaluate other potential attractants if bears are reported in the area.

“If you’ve got reports right there close to the house, just think about where your garbage is,” he said.

North said the incident prompted her to change her routine moving forward.

“Definitely don’t leave your leftover KFC on the kitchen table and make sure the door is shut very well,” she said.
