Man Utd miss out on £13m transfer windfall as Red Devils left stung by flop Antony AGAIN

Manchester United are set to lose out on a huge windfall, with Real Betis turning down a deal for Antony . The Brazilian winger was a huge flop at Old Trafford following a £81m move from Ajax.

He scored just 12 times in 96 appearances before joining Betis on loan. Antony eventually joined the La Liga side permanently for a huge loss, albeit it appeared that the Red Devils could be set to recoup some of that fee.

In agreeing to let him leave, United slotted a clause into the deal that would see them receive around 50 percent of the profit that Betis made in selling him on.

According to ABC , the Spanish side received a €50m (£42.7m) bid for the winger from an unnamed club, which would have seen them make a huge profit on the €21m they initially paid, thus landing United around €15m (£12.8m). But it is reported that the offer was rejected out of hand by Betis, due to his importance to the squad, as well as their limited funds to find a potential replacement.

Antony has been linked with a move to Turkey this summer, with Besiktas linked as they attempt to find an alternative to Mohamed Salah , who has joined domestic rivals Trabzonspor.

Antony was also linked with a switch to German giants Bayern Munich last summer before deciding to join Betis permanently. On that interest, he said: "That was, of course, a great honour.

"I have great respect for Bayern Munich and also for Vincent Kompany. He's a coach I greatly admire. When a club like Bayern shows interest and the coach calls personally, it means a lot to a player.

"[Choosing Betis] was a decision I made together with my family. I was going through a difficult time in my life and needed a place where I could be happy again – not just as a footballer, but also as a person.

"I felt that Betis was exactly the right club for me. That's why I don't regret this decision at all!"

On the forthcoming season, the Brazilian added: "This is something very special for the club and our fans [playing in the Champions League ]. They have waited many years for this moment.

"We know how big the challenge in the Champions League will be, but we are looking forward to it. Our goal is to represent Betis in the best possible way and give our all in every match.

"The fans can look forward to a team that plays with great passion and commitment. I want to win titles. That's always my biggest goal.

"I also want to improve my stats, score more goals, and provide more assists. But above all, I want to help the team and have an even better season than last year."
