Anne Hathaway defends Tom Cruise’s “brilliant” ‘Digger’ from scathing reviews

Anne Hathaway has posted a glowing appraisal of Tom Cruise ’s Digger and encouraged people to watch it for themselves after a string of scathing reviews READ MORE: ‘Digger’ review: Tom Cruise’s search for an Oscar continues Satirical black comedy Digger was co-written and directed by Alejandro G.

Iñárritu ( Birdman, The Revenant ) and follows oil tycoon Digger Rockwell (Cruise) as he tries to save the lives of thousands from an environmental disaster that he’s behind.

The film was panned by critics and has struggled at the box office.

During its opening weekend, it took just $20million against a production budget of $160million, setting it up to become one of the biggest flops in Hollywood history .

However, it’s been warmly received by movie fans who have seen it.

Digger currently has a Rotten Tomatoes audience rating of 73 per cent (based on more than 1,000 reviews).

One of the people who enjoyed Digger was Anne Hathaway, who left a glowing review on her Letterboxd account.

“I loved this brilliant movie,” she wrote.

“It’s smart and trippy and aggressive and funny and ambitious.

It’s worth making the time to see and decide for yourself what you make of it.

“It’s one of the greatest pieces of film I have ever seen in my entire life.

This movie being slammed by reviewers is beyond comprehension.
