Tupac Shakur cast in upcoming Snoop Dogg biopic

The part of Tupac Shakur has been cast for the forthcoming Snoop Dogg biopic, with Camron Jones stepping into the shoes of the rap icon.

Craig Brewer ( Hustle & Flow ) is directing the film, titled Snoop , based on the life and career of Snoop Dogg, who is played in the film by actor Jonathan Daviss.

Snoop himself is producing, alongside Brian Grazer who was behind Eminem’s 2002 semi-autobiographical film 8 Mile .

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Camron Jones, best known for Amazon Prime series Panic , will play Shakur, who died in Las Vegas in 1996 after being shot by an unknown assailant.

His legacy has grown exponentially since his death, with the rapper previously being played by Demetrius Shipp Jr. in the 2017 biopic All Eyez On Me , and before that by Marvel star Anthony Mackie in 2009’s Notorious , the biopic of his friend-turned-rival Notorious B.I.G.

Shakur and Snoop Dogg were close friends early in their career, collaborating on the song ‘2 Of Amerikaz Most Wanted’, but drifted due to the East Coast-West Coast rap rivalry that Shakur became deeply involved in.

They would nonetheless remain friends, with Snoop visiting Shakur in his final moments in hospital.

In addition to Jones, Deadline reports that Lauren London is set to portray Snoop Dogg’s mother, Beverly Tate in the film, which is scheduled for release on August 6 2027.

Tate was a significant influence on her son’s life, and was the first to give him the name “Snoopy” due to his love of the Peanuts cartoon series as a child.

Myles Bullock Be, who has appeared on TV shows White Men Can’t Jump and The Vince Staples Show , will play Snoop’s long-time collaborator Dr.

Dre.

This month, a new trial surrounding the murder of Tupac Shakur commenced, with the court hearing about how “all hell broke loose” on the night of the rapper’s shooting.
