404lb woman on three takeaways a day loses 12st after comment at slimming group

A woman who says she was addicted to food and regularly ate three takeaways a day has shed more than 13 stone. At her heaviest, Siân Robinson weighed 28st 12lbs and wore a size 32.

After years of failed diets, Siân’s weight began taking a devastating toll on her everyday life. She became breathless walking upstairs, avoided public transport because she worried about taking up too much space and needed a mobility scooter to get around Disney World in March 2024.

“I was scared of flying and fitting in the seat,” said Siân, from Worcester, Worcestershire. “I didn’t like public transport in case I had to sit by someone and make them uncomfortable due to my size. Most physical activity was so hard for me.

“It was affecting my day-to-day life. I had no confidence. I felt I’d lost my spark and was hiding away. I didn’t want to attend any events or meet friends, etc., as I was worried people would look at me because of my size.”

Siân said one cruel comment at a slimming group particularly stuck with her. She said: “People very rarely made comments. They just didn’t want to speak about it. However, something that has stuck with me is that at a local slimming group.

“I attended for the first time in a while, and the lady weighing there said, ‘Oh my God, Siân, I didn’t recognise you; you’ve got so big’.

“That really upset me I was so upset when I realised I’d need a mobility scooter to get round Disney. It cost $60 a day but was essential because I just couldn’t do it. I was only 30 and already needed a scooter. I wondered how many years I had left with the way it was going.”

Siân says her struggles with her weight began in childhood and food eventually came to dominate her life. She said: “I was always the biggest in my class at school. I noticed this from early years, and looking back in photos, I was always a bigger child.

“I went on my first diet at a slimming club at the age of 10, and would always lose a bit, then put more back on. It became more of an addiction for me. All I would think about was food, and my life would revolve around it.”

But after getting engaged to her partner of 13 years, Matt, 32, in August 2024, Siân decided she wanted to transform her health before walking down the aisle. The aesthetics nurse prescriber began taking the weight-loss jab Mounjaro in November 2024 as a final attempt before considering surgery.

She has since lost 13st 10lbs, dropping from a size 32 to a size 16. Siân said: “I wanted to feel amazing on my wedding day and fit into my dream dress. I wanted something that actually worked, as one last try before I would make the decision to have surgery.

“I followed a lot of people who were on Mounjaro and decided I wanted to give it a go. I chose a company that was CQC registered, and I felt safe with. I ordered the pen whilst I was on a Disney cruise, and it was waiting for me when I got home.

“I felt terrified. I was scared that it wouldn’t work and the only thing left would be surgery. I was also scared I’d have horrific side effects, but I haven’t.”

Siân has also overhauled her diet, ditching her regular takeaways in favour of high-protein, balanced meals.
