Goat sanctuary purchases 16.9 acres of more land

A goat sanctuary in Kent has purchased an additional 16.9 acres of land, which it said would enable it to house up to 160 goats.

Buttercups Sanctuary for Goats in Boughton Monchelsea said that the new plot of land was close to where it was currently situated and would provide "long-lasting results for both our adorable residents and the wider, beautiful countryside".

Matt Huggins said that it was the "most significant step since the charity's foundation".

"It's been something we've all been dreaming of for a long, long time, and we're all very excited to get going," Huggins added.

According to the sanctuary, the purchased plot of land had historically been used for agriculture and will enable it to rescue more goats and double its on-site capacity.

It said a lot of work would need to be carried out on the land despite being a "blank canvas", but new goats are expected to begin living there by spring 2027.

Huggins added that its long-term vision included solar panels, wind turbines and habitat networks for the wildlife, which he expected would take years to be fully completed.

"There's a long road ahead, and we are going to need the help of our supporters to make it a final reality, but we've taken the first major step," he said.
