Arsenal news: New signing flies in for medical as £60million transfer nears completion

After a long summer of intense speculation and rumours, the Premier League transfer window closed on Tuesday night. However, Arsenal ’s business is not completely done just yet.

Gunners sporting director Andrea Berta spent £200million on five new signings over the summer period. He made Piero Hincapie’s move permanent for £34.5m, brought in back-up goalkeeper Illan Meslier as a free agent, signed winger Christos Tzolis for £34m, secured midfielder Bruno Guimaraes for £75m, and landed defender Ezri Konsa in a £55m deal .

But the Premier League champions crucially failed to add a marquee forward to their ranks, despite being linked with a host of names, including Vinicius Junior and Julian Alvarez .

The north Londoners were more successful in terms of outgoings , finally parting ways with Gabriel Jesus, Fabio Vieira, Reiss Nelson, Leandro Trossard and last summer’s signing Christian Norgaard. Gabriel Martinelli’s club record sale is expected to be announced shortly.

Now, Mirror Football takes a look at two of the final transfer developments involving Mikel Arteta ’s side before the 2026/27 campaign heats up.

Images began circulating online of Andria Bartishvili arriving in London on Wednesday for his Arsenal medical, having agreed a five-year deal with the Gunners. The 17-year-old Georgian has been dubbed ‘the next Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’, and can be deployed both as a winger and creative midfielder.

However, despite completing his transfer, Bartishvili will not join up with the Arsenal squad fully until he turns 18 in March 2027. The north Londoners reportedly beat the likes of Juventus and Liverpool to his signature by agreeing a deal worth €4.5m (£3.85m).

Bartishvili has already shared a message to everyone commenting on his Arsenal move, writing on Instagram : “A very big thank you to everyone for the congratulations.”

Martinelli’s move to Al-Hilal is expected to be confirmed shortly. The 25-year-old is set to join the Saudi Pro League side from Arsenal in a deal worth £55.7m plus £4.3m in add-ons , marking a club record sale.

Martinelli, despite initially wanting to stay at the Emirates, agreed to the move and underwent his medical on Wednesday. According to The Athletic , he will sign a four-year contract at the Riyadh-based club.

The transfer is expected to be announced shortly as, unlike the Premier League transfer window which shut on September 1, Saudi clubs have until September 6 to complete their business. Since joining Arsenal from the Brazilian fourth-tier back in 2019, Martinelli has helped the Gunners win the FA Cup , Premier League and Community Shield three times, scoring 62 goals and providing 36 assists in 278 matches.
