Ariana Grande hits out at Team Trump for using ‘We Can’t Be Friends’ in TikTok

Ariana Grande has once again fired back after one of her songs was used to soundtrack a TikTok video relating to Donald Trump .

The track was used over a clip of Trump walking up to a podium with text that read: “Me and my truth we sit in silence… Men can’t have babies and should never compete in women’s sports.” Team Trump captioned the post: “This shouldn’t be controversial! #trump #arianagrande #maga.” Taking to the comments, Grande blasted the use of her music on the clip and wrote, “Never use my music again.

Back in June, she criticised the White House after her song ‘Bye’ was used in a video showing ICE agents detaining people , telling the administration not to associate her music with the “barbaric, inhumane” footage.

Grande supported Democratic nominee Kamala Harris during the 2024 presidential election.

Following Trump’s historic victory to become POTUS for the second time , Grande wrote: “Holding the hand of every person who is feeling the immeasurable heaviness of this outcome today.” In 2022, the pop star urged her fans to “reject him [Trump] with everything you have” after he announced he’d be running for US president again.

She had criticised the “straight, white, old” presidential candidates in 2020 , saying: “That’s not fair.

You know? How! How will we get this right?” Grande isn’t the first artist to have qualms with the White House using her music without consent.

Earlier this month, Taylor Swift ‘s song ‘August’ was removed from a TikTok post that had quipped the artist would be “super excited” about its use.

Kesha also hit out after ‘Blow’ was used in a military video , while Boards Of Canada and Warp Records condemned the unauthorised use of ‘Deep Time’ in a post featuring border patrol boats and detention centres.

Sabrina Carpenter previously described an ICE video featuring ‘Juno’ as “evil and disgusting” , while Olivia Rodrigo accused the administration of using her music to promote “racist, hateful propaganda” .

Other artists and estates to have objected to Trump using their work include The Rolling Stones , Adele , Neil Young , Jack White , ABBA , Céline Dion , Foo Fighters , Isaac Hayes ’ estate and Eddy Grant .
