Hull City fans call out TNT Sports pundit during coverage of shock Man Utd win

Hull City fans called out Joe Cole in the first half of their win over Manchester United as the Premier League new boys got their season off to the dream start.

The Tigers won promotion to the top flight via the play-offs last season having finished sixth and have been tipped by many - including Cole - to finish bottom of the table. Hull haven't been in the Premier League since 2017 and were tipped for the drop last year.

They exceeded expectations, but few expected them to cause such an upset on the opening weekend as they downed the Red Devils , scoring twice in the first half to knock off Michael Carrick's side, who have been tipped to potential finish as high as second.

When discussing Hull's year the TNT Sports pundit said on The Dressing Room podcast that he would be "stunned if they stayed up" - and once they led by two goals the MKM Stadium crowd were keen to remind him.

After Nobel Mendy scored their second goal, heading home from a set piece, the home fans sang: "Are you watching, Joe Cole?" The chant was heard again as the full-time whistle neared.

Hull were more than good value for their three points with United very much kept at bay. The Tigers owner Acun Ilicali admits his team have already been written off, which served as a point of frustration last season, and knows that much the same is happening 12 months on.

He said on TNT Sports : "I was fed up last season, [people tipping us for] relegation - but not like this year. This year, everybody's making predictions. When it comes to Hull, they don't even talk, just put 'Hull, 20' then go straight to the next team. That's what we like, I like, our fans like, because we want to be underdogs. If nobody thinks we will achieve something, I like it like this."

Hull are the favourites for relegation, but their statement win on Saturday afternoon gives them the ideal start. Their most recent spell in the top flight only lasted one year as they went straight back down.

Tigers defender Semi Ajayi, who scored the opener at the MKM Stadium, insists they are not bothered about the doubters. "We're not focused on outside noise," he said. "We back ourselves to do well and hopefully we will have a really positive season."
