Man stabbed to death on London 'Millionaires' Row' as Met Police launches murder probe

Police launched a murder probe after a man was stabbed to death on a "Millionaires' Row" in London.

Officers raced to Lloyd Baker Street in Clerkenwell at around 11:20pm on Wednesday and found a 28-year-old man with stab wounds, the Metropolitan Police said. He was rushed to hospital by paramedics but tragically died on Thursday.

The man's next of kin have been informed, and are being supported by specially trained officers.

No arrests have been made, the Met Police said. Detectives are urgently appealing for members of the public with any information about the incident to contact them.

Lloyd Baker Street is among the more affluent residential addresses in Clerkenwell, featuring Grade II listed Georgian terraced houses which sell for as much as £2.25million. Floral tributes have been placed on the street by the victim's loved-ones.

A Section 60 order has also been issued, granting officers enhanced powers to stop and search people and vehicles. This applies to the Caledonian Road, Clerkenwell and Hoxton areas. The order ran from 4pm on Friday September 18 to 6am on Saturday September 19.

Chief Superintendent Jason Stewart, who leads policing in the local area, said: "This is a tragic incident, and our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the young man who has lost his life.

"You can expect to see additional officers in the area providing visible reassurance and working with partners to keep the public safe.

"The victim was found in a residential street, and members of the public may have information of vital importance to our investigation. If you can help, please come forward."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference CAD 8475/16SEP. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
