Madeleine McCann prime suspect Christian Brueckner plots tell-all book in fresh agony for her parents
The prime suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann is planning to publish a tell-all book - sparking fury.
Christian Brueckner, who has never been charged over the youngster's disappearance, is penning his story just a year after he was released from prison for rape. Strict rules mean criminals cannot profit from their crimes, but rules in his native Germany are different, and it is feared Brueckner, 49, could earn a significant amount from the sickening release.
Retired British police detective Kevin Moore told us: “I wont be buying it. It’s abhorrent.” Spooked locals in Brueckner’s homeland added: “It’s a disgrace.”
Insiders say the creep has already started putting pen to paper, and has approached at least one professional writer to help him craft the text and translate it. The deluded fiend has told pals he believes he could make a seven-figure sum - but in reality it would be a far more modest sum.
A source told the Mirror: “Brueckner is desperate to tell his side of the story. He believes that writing about his innocence will help him. He wants the book to be published in both German and English. Ultimately he also sees it as a way to help him financially as he has been unable to find any work since getting out of jail and is living on benefits.”
Brueckner’s plan will cause further anguish for Madeleine’s parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, who still have no answers since their daughter went missing in May 2007. Retired Detective Chief Superintendent Mr Moore worked on hundreds of investigations, including the Babes in the Wood murders, which involved the sexual assault and strangulation of two nine-year-old schoolgirls.
Mr Moore said: “He is obviously a particularly unpleasant individual who was convicted of horrible crimes in the past. I assume he will obviously be writing about his innocence in the Madeleine McCann case. To me, it’s abhorrent. I won’t be buying it and one would hope the public won’t want to buy it.”
German prosecutors first named Brueckner as the prime suspect in the case in June 2020, but they were unable to stop him being released from prison after serving a seven-year sentence for the rape of an elderly pensioner in Praia da Luz, the same resort where Madeleine disappeared, in 2005.
And despite claiming they believe he abducted and killed the then three-year-old, prosecutors have still not charged the convicted paedo and rapist with any offence in relation to the Madeleine investigation.
Brueckner was released from prison on September 17 last year. He has been unable to find work and has moved home several times after repeatedly being hounded out by locals who did not want him living near them. Protest group Victim Protection Before Perpetrator Protection are among those who have been campaigning to have Brueckner moved.
Told about the fiend’s book plan, its co-leader Annika, who asked for her surname not to be published, said: “It’s a disgrace. This man is a convicted criminal, already convicted of many terrible offences, and yet now he gets to write a book and spout all his lies.
