US Army offers soldiers time off to play ‘Grand Theft Auto 6’

A US Army battalion is reportedly offering soldiers time off to play Grand Theft Auto 6 as a special “incentive” to reenlist.

That’s according to a written directive shared on the U.S Army WTF! Moments Instagram account, which has 328,000 followers.

The memo has the subject line “Special Reenlistment Incentive – Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) 4-Day Pass” and stipulates that “any officer who signs a reenlistment contract between 1 August 2026 and 14 November 2026 will be authorized for a special 4-day pass”.

The special pass “is specifically designated to coincide with the highly anticipated release” of the new GTA game, the memo continues, though the “exact dates” when it can be redeemed are to be “coordinated between the [individual] soldier and their chain of command”.

However, the memo states that no officer can be granted more than “four consecutive days” of leave to spend careering around Leonida.

Hodgson, who appears to be genuine , though this is obviously no guarantee that the letter isn’t simply a well crafted fake.

Over on Reddit , gamers and army veterans alike are debating the likelihood of any battalion offering time off to play a video game, even one as iconic as a new GTA sequel.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is set for release on November 19 – and new figures suggest that the vast majority of fans are preordering the more expensive Ultimate edition instead of the cheaper Standard edition.

Earlier this year, Rockstar Games confirmed it would be making several in-game features exclusive to the more expensive Ultimate version.

In the meantime, an Extended Look at the game will premiere on Netflix on August 27 at 8pm before being released more widely at 2am the following morning.

Rockstar’s decision to lock this preview content behind a streaming paywall has not proved popular with all GTA fans The post US Army offers soldiers time off to play ‘Grand Theft Auto 6’ appeared first on NME .
